Tuesday, November 24, 2009 17:39 - On Tuesday November 24, 2009 starting at 1739 hrs. The Hawthorne FD was dispatched for several calls regarding an odor of gas at several different locations. Units operating E155, U41, MPPD, WCPD.
The first of the calls was at 19 Bradhurst Ave. Callers stated that there was a strong odor of gas in the atrium Area and the Main floor of the building. Crews entered the building and checked the area. While crews were doing that a second alarm came in for 95 Bradhurst Ave. HAwthorne responded along with Valhalla FD for this call.
Just as this call was coming in Hawthorne received additional 2 more calls for strong odor gas at 101 Saw Mill Rv. Rd., and also at 9 Skyline Dr.
As the calls were going on both Hawthorne and Valhalla FD's were advised that Con Ed was in the process of charging and new gas supply line from Lakeview Ave. into the area of 95 Bradhurst Ave. Once the line was charged, a leak was detected back in the area of Lakeview Ave. & Bradhurst Ave. Con Ed crews were able to locate the leak and made the repair to the line.
The duration of all the calls were about 1 1/2 hrs. All units were placed back in service shortly after.
