WORING STRUCTURE FIRE 11/22/08
Saturday, November 22, 2008
-
November 22, 2008 @ 0350 hrs, Hawthorne FD was dispatched for a working structure fire at 230 Brookline St. Cross streets of Astor Ave. and Weed Ave. Temprature at the time was 20 degress F and a feel like temp of 9 degress.

Units operating 2191, 2192, 2193, L56, TL12, U41, 63B1, Valhalla FD 2481, 2482, E84, R9(fast team), Thornwood FD 2471, 2473 TL1, Briarcliff Manor FD R37(cascade), Standby units for Hawthorne Elmsford E237, Pleasantville VAC, Batt. 10, Westchester Co. C&O Team, Westchester County DES(60 Control), Con Ed Emergency Supervisor, Con Ed gas and electric, Mt. Pleasant PD., 37M1, Mt. Pleasant Building Dept., Mt.Pleasant H'way for sanding of the roads, Mt. Pleasant Water Dept.

Upon arrival of C-2191 the Chief found a 2.5 story private dwelling fully involved. 2191 contacted 60 Control and asked that Hawthorne be re-dispatched for a confirmed working fire and that our mutual aid pre-plan be activated. While this was taking place the Chief was advised that all occupants were out of the house. When L56 arrived on scene in front of the house, crews hit the nearest hydrant and stretched a 2.5 handline to the B side exposure for protection and the ladder pipe was placed in operation. Addition lines were stretched and placed into operation to protect the C side exposure from fire and collapse. The C side house was @ 15' away from the fire building. The house was then checked to make sure that all occupants were evacuated from the house. TL12 was advised to hit the next closest hydrant and stretch in. Once on location the arieal was placed into operation along witha 1.75 handline which was stretched to the front door of the second house to provide protection. Crews were then sent into the second house and checked for extension. Luckly the only damage to the second house was melted siding and a couple of broken windows from the heat exposure. TL1, while enroute was advised to hit the closest hydrant and stretch in from there. Their arieal was placed into operation to help extinguish the fire and also provide additional protection to the B side exposure.

The fire was placed under control @0600 hrs. All units were released shortly after that.

We would like to thank all the mutual companies which provide us with help that morning. A great job was done by all involved.

Here are some pictures of the after math from the fire..........
